Theoretical Foundations And Modern Directions Of The Study Of The Category Of Modality

This article analyzes the history of the formation of the concept of modality, its philosophical and logical foundations, and its interpretations in modern linguistics. The semantic, pragmatic, communicative, and cognitive properties of the category of modality are highlighted, and the state of its research in Uzbek linguistics is also considered. Some comments are also made on the role of modality in computer linguistics and artificial intelligence technologies.
